THOMAS VAN MAREN

Thomas is originally from the island of Curaçao and made stops in Miami, Toronto, and Victoria
before making his way to the Bow Valley. Thomas was a swimmer growing up and competed
collegiately with the University of Victoria Vikes while completing his BA in Economics. After
working in finance for a couple of years, the mountains came calling and Thomas decided to
follow his passion for ski touring. He recently graduated from Timberline Alpine Academy's
Outdoor Adventure Guide Diploma program and is working on his resume for the ACMG Ski
Guide Stream. In the summers, you can find him climbing around the Bow Valley and paragliding
whenever the weather and winds are favourable. He has also worked as whitewater river guide
in both rafts and canoes.

Thomas has always had a love for the outdoors, and family vacations to Alaska, the Yukon,
Wyoming, and New Zealand helped fuel his passion for outdoor adventures. While visiting
family in New Zealand, he learned to snowboard - a sport he got to enjoy more often after his
family moved to Canada in 2009. It was during his time exploring the backcountry of BC and the
Canadian Rockies that Thomas found his love for guiding. What led him to Cloud Nine Guides is
his passion for sharing these experiences in the mountains with other people.
