AUSTIN GOODINE
Austin is an ACMG Rock Guide and a Climbing Arborist, in addition to which he is one of our AST 1 Instructors as a CAA Avalanche Practitioner, and is certified for Wilderness First Aid (80hr).
Austin grew up in Edmonton, where he's path to the outdoor industry opened up when he started climbing in high school, soon landing a job at the climbing gym. Essentially, Austin's been teaching as long as he's been climbing.
After a brief stint at university, where Austin studied Sciences (Chemistry & Physics) and discovered that his interest for the outdoors club surpassed that of studying, he moved out to Nordegg to pursue his passion for the outdoors, volunteering at the Centre for Outdoor Education. Later on, Austin moved to Canmore where he currently lives and is now 8 years in working at Sunshine Village Ski Resort, steadily rising from the Trail Crew to Ski Patrol, and now to the role of an Avalanche Forecaster.
Since moving away from Edmonton, Austin's known that he's calling is to become an IFMGA Mountain Guide - a committing path of life-long learning, on which he's now well on his way with ACMG Apprentice Ski Guide courses on the schedule for this winter and his Alpine Resume nearly complete. What drives him on this journey, is that it requires significant personal commitment and drive from the individual - to do what is needed to get it done - and he's continuously inspired by the mentors and friends his met along the way.
Austin spends majority of his spare days climbing and skiing, absorbed in the world of outdoors, with last summer's notable ascents including Mount Robson's Kain Face. Beyond that, he describes himself as a 'housecat', enjoying the rest days on the couch playing video games.
