Mike Trehearne

 

Mike is an Internationally Certified IFMGA Mountain Guide, CAA Avalanche Operations Level 2 Avalanche Forecaster, and a Professional Level member of the Canadian Avalanche Association. He has a broad base of experience, having designed and built a variety of successful small group programs for our clients on 5 continents and at elevations of up to 7000m. He also designs many of the programs and trips Cloud Nine offers in Canada. In the role of overseeing the guiding programs, he provides support and mentorship to our Apprentice Guides as they provide their services to our guests. When not at work, the trips he's most proud these days are the one's with his daughter and favorite adventure buddy, Layla. She might be small, but she gets after it and keeping up is a full time job all by itself.

 

 

 

 

 

 


Simon Meis

 

Simon is an Internationally Certified (IFMGA) Mountain Guide. He has spent the last 20 years playing in the mountains. Simon's primary passion is climbing and he has travelled widely in pursuit of vertical adventure. Notable accomplishments include big wall first ascents in Pakistan and the Bugaboos as well as establishing numerous new routes near Canmore, his hometown, up to the grade of 5.13+.

 

He has climbed most of the classic Rockies waterfall ice test pieces over the years, however finds himself spending more and more time on skis, working as a heli-ski guide with Selkirk Tangiers Heli-Skiing in addition to our Ski Touring programs with Cloud Nine.  With extensive local knowledge in both the Rockies and British Columbia backcountry, he always finds a way to get his guests the good snow.

 

 

On down days he can be found with his sketch book or a canvas.  An accomplished artist, his passion for mountains and adventure comes through vividly in his artwork. Simon loves to share his passion and enthusiasm for the mountains with guests, whether it is sharing a classic climb or searching out a fresh line. His diverse background and calm, humble, demeanour make him an excellent teacher. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Dylan Abel

 

Dylan is an ACMG Certified Top Rope Climbing instructor (TRACI) and Climbing Gym Instructor level 1 (CGI1). Deciding early on he was to become an IFMGA Mountain Guide, he has been learning continuously and furthering his professional abilities in the industry since the age of 16 when received his first ACMG certification. He is also a fluent French speaker.
His youth was spent climbing competitively placing 2nd in Alberta in 2017 in difficulty climbing, and 13th in Canada in his last competition season. He has maintained a personal climbing standard of 5.13a. Being the youngest member of our team, it comes somwhat unexpectedly that he has mountain experience on 3 continents at altitudes of up to 5000m. He is currently attending Acadia University through the winter season, studying business, and works for Cloud Nine Guides during the summer seasons.
He runs the vast majority of our Day Rock EXPERIENCE programs during the summer months, and also spends time supporting our alpine programs logistically, as well as shadowing and working in a practicum capacity on our mountain trips.
In his down time he enjoys climbing hard, skiing new areas, mountain biking or frequenting the Canmore coffee shops. Having spent his youth in competitive sports he is goal oriencted and pushing towards IFMGA Certification, upon completion of his business degree.

 

 

 

 

 

 


Jacob Dans

 

Jacob takes the lead instructor role on programs with our partners at the Calgary Climbing Centre, he also guides on all varieties of our climbing programs from the Day Rock Experience up through our Private Alpine Climbing Programs and our AST 1 Avalanche Courses. He is an ACMG certified Apprentice Alpine Guide, as well as a level 1 Climbing Gym Instructor. He also holds Level 1 certification with the Canadian Avalanche Association. 

Jacob moved to Canmore four years ago to pursue a career in guiding and has since climbed extensively throughout the Rocky Mountains. His friendly, patient demeanour makes him a great teacher and guide to spend a day out climbing with. 

 

During the winter months Jacob is a passionate ice climber and enjoys spending time on his skis powder hunting. On his days off he can be found at a local cafe with a coffee in hand researching his next adventure.
